The panel under the title of “Climate is Changing, are You Aware?” within the framework of the project “Better Futures with Enhanced Capacity and Awareness on Climate Change” carried out by Bilecik Governorship within the scope of the “Grant Program of Capacity Development in the Field of Climate Change in Turkey” funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, and of which main beneficiary is the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, was held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 with the participation of approximately 200 people.
The panel, of which moderator was Prof. Dr. Cengiz Türe from Eskişehir Technical University, was attended by Doctor Lecturer Burçin Atılgan Türkmen from Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, Doctor Lecturer Serpil Menteşe from Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University and Mustafa Budak from Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanisation as panelists.
Prof.Dr. Cengiz Türe, Head of the Departments of Biology and Ecology of Eskişehir Technical University Faculty of Science, made the opening speech and said that it is not enough for us to stand by the climate change, by stating that the most important reason of climate change is the global warming. “Every individual has a set of attitudes and behaviours that they can do and demonstrate about climate change. The most important of these is to be conscious. The most important reason of climate change is the global warming,” he said. After this, Dr. Lecturer Burçin Atılgan Türkmen, working in the project on behalf of the university, gave information about the projects and activities and evaluated the results of the survey conducted in our city.
In the continuation of the panel, Dr. Lecturer Serpil Menteşe explained the natural causes of climate change and the effects of these changes, and Dr. Lecturer Burçin Atılgan Türkmen gave information about human-induced causes of climate change and greenhouse gases. Mustafa Budak from Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanisation gave information about our position in the climate change, what they are doing, their mission and vision, and the effects of climate change on the environment.
The panelists then answered questions from the participants. The Panel ended after the refreshments were offered.
